Mental Health Matters – Reward Communications

Company Profile

INDUSTRY: Charity/Non-profit

NO. OF EMPLOYEES: 350

Mental Health Matters (MHM) is a national charity with over 35 years of experience in delivering high-quality mental health and social care services. MHM has a hugely positive impact on the lives of people living with mental health needs in our local communities. They provide services across England, from Northumberland to Plymouth.

Challenge

MHM wanted to be a lot more transparent in how they manage pay and to make sure that they communicate this clearly and honestly to their employees.

As a result of the great resignation, many organisations, including MHM, were also facing recruitment and retention challenges in a highly competitive market. This meant that not only was it crucial to implement new policies and practices, but team members had to be included as a major part of the process from start to finish.

Reward communications was something that would allow MHM to do just that. We could provide context and training around the changes happening at MHM.

Solution

We worked with the internal communications team at Mental Health Matters to put together a timeline and a plan for what we would present to employees.

This meant communicating all the steps, from how we benchmarked the jobs to how the career framework and job evaluation process works at Mental Health Matters.

We asked Mental Health Matters for their brand guidelines and our communications team became familiar with their brand colours, fonts and stylings.

From here, we produced several communications in the Mental Health Matters branding. This included employee guides, training videos and FAQ documents for employees. This would allow Mental Health Matters to communicate clearly about how the project was carried out and how pay is going to be managed on an ongoing basis.

It also served as a way for MHM to demonstrate how important feedback from colleagues is in the organisation, displaying the improvements and changes made and reasons for doing so.

Outcome

Their employees now have access to multiple guides and videos that explain every process to them clearly – helping to build a culture of trust within Mental Health Matters.

Managers within MHM also have a better understanding of how the organisation manages pay, allowing them to have more meaningful pay conversations with their teams.

In a time where retention is key, this process was crucial in allowing MHM to build trust with employees through pay transparency.
