“It was a no brainer that we would work with 3R-Strategy to support the roll out of a clear reward strategy. From our initial consultation call it was clear we wouldn’t need to squeeze into a set structure but the complexities of our business would be very much taken into account, to create something bespoke for the IOE&IT.

The team worked closely with us through the whole process, running the workshops with our team members, providing recommendations and challenging us where needed to ensure we took the right approach to achieve where we want to go as an organisation. The team were always on hand for questions and queries outside of our regular project calls so we never felt alone or unsure. The branded documents that the team produced for us were written in our tone of voice and fitted our organisation style. They were well received by team members, and the fact we got very little questions when our Reward Strategy and guides were rolled out demonstrates they were well-written communications and all team members understood our approach to pay and how it affects them as an individual.”

Challenge

When IOE&IT came to us, they already had a framework in place that was based on a job evaluation tool. However, this policy wasn’t transparent or clear enough for managers to fully understand. Also, as experts in trade and export, they had a need to recognise specialisms within their roles. With Brexit playing a huge part, the demand for knowledge increased exponentially. But with their current pay structure, they were struggling to differentiate between the niche and core roles.

Solution

3R Strategy worked to develop IOE&IT’s pay philosophy and principles, running a two-hour session with their leadership team.

After this benchmarked their core and specialist roles, running a calibration session to validate matching and providing a full report to compare their team members with the external market.

From here we produced a new career framework and pay progression policy that reflected the values and goals of the organisation. Communicating this whole process to employees was the final step that allowed them to express the simplicity of these new policies and ensure managers had sufficient training to tackle any pay conversations along the way.

Outcome

The new bespoke framework has also allowed IOE&IT to recognise specialisms within the organisation and understand what’s happening in the market for their unique roles. This transparency and consistency was something the organisation did not have previously, but can now utilise with new and existing team members, ensuring pay remains fair and equitable at IOE&IT.

They can also be sure that their pay decisions will now reflect the core values and principles of the organisation, allowing them to remain competitive, and attract and retain talent whilst establishing clear expectations throughout the organisation.
